Yoga & Cancer

Hearing the words “you have cancer” is a momentous, life-changing moment and something you wished you did not have to deal with. Cancer is a cold new reality. Today, more and more people are dealing with cancer in their lives. Fortunately, we are better able to deal with it and survival rates are rising.

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2016. My life changed the very moment I heard those words. Then began a long road of shock, fear, acceptance, pain, anxiety, and healing. My life will never be the same. Yoga has helped in ways I could not have anticipated.

This experience motivated me to complete the Yoga4Cancer teacher training, learning what the practice of yoga can mean for people dealing with cancer. This ranges from handling the diagnosis, the treatment, and the side effects of the treatments.

Through study and self-practice I learned that yoga can help to work on the immune system, improve flexibility & strength, reduce anxiety, and boost overall wellbeing. The Yoga4Cancer approach goes beyond gentle and restorative yoga. It is based on the latest research and recommendations and looks at short- and long-term side effects that cancer patients and survivors face like bone loss, lymphedema, scar tissue, constipation, neuropathy, and more.

Sessions

While yoga is not a cure-all there is substantial evidence that well-crafted interventions have measurable positive effects on health and healing.
All cancers, treatments and side effects of the treatments are different and vary from person to person. Therefore the yoga sessions that I offer are one-on-one. This will give you all the necessary room and privacy to work directly with me. The sessions can be online and/or in person (Playa del Carmen, Mexico).

Some of the benefits of our one-on-one sessions:

  • Building strength and flexibility in safe ways

  • Stimulating your immune system and building bone density

  • Detoxing the body and cultivating a sense of wellbeing

  • Creating hope

  • Empowering you to feel in control of your life

  • Encouraging you to embrace yoga as a personal tool that will enhance your wellbeing.

  • Much needed active resting

  • Find solutions for treatment side effects.
